Iraq Death Row Torture Claims

Dozens of families in Fallujah say their relatives sentenced to hang on anti-terrorism charges have been tortured.

The Iraqi justice ministry says the names and numbers of people executed and even the specific charges they were executed for are classified.

The ministry denies systematic torture, but relatives of prisoners on death row say the condemned inmates have been subject to months of torture in an attempt to extract confessions.

Most of the children of death-row prisoners in Fallujah were also jailed when their fathers were detained. They are now awaiting news of their fathers’ executions.

Al Jazeera‘s Jane Arraf reports from Fallujah, Iraq.
